ABOUT MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage therapy is a form of bodywork that is used to improve function within the body. By using their hands in a variety of different techniques, massage therapists manipulate the soft tissues in the body to promote relaxation and improved circulation. Massage therapy is also used to promote general health and wellbeing in the client, and to prevent future medical issues.
THE BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY
One of the immediate benefits of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. This occurs because massage prompts the release of endorphins, the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that produce feelings of wellbeing. Levels of stress hormones, such as adrenalin, cortisol and norepinephrine, are also reduced. Studies indicate that high levels of stress hormones impair the immune system.
Some of the physical benefits of Massage include: reduced muscle tension, improved circulation, stimulation of the lymphatic system, reduction of stress hormones, increased joint mobility and flexibility, improved skin tone, speedier healing of soft tissue injuries, heightened mental alertness, reduced anxiety and depression.
Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which cups are placed on the skin to create suction. The cups can be made of a variety of materials, including: Glass, Bamboo and Earthenware. Supporters of cupping therapy believe the suction of the cups mobilizes blood flow to promote the healing of a broad range of medical ailments. Cupping therapy dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, The Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians were using cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.
BENEFITS OF CUPPING THERAPY
The British Cupping Society says Cupping Therapy can treat a variety of conditions, although this has not been backed up by studies. Cupping Therapy is used to treat: Blood disorders such as anemia and haemophilia, Rheumatic diseases such as arthritis and fibromyalgia, Fertility and gynecological disorders, Skin problems such as eczema and acne, High blood pressure (hypertension), Migraine, Anxiety and depression, Bronchial congestion caused by allergies and asthma, and Varicose veins. Supporters also believe that cupping therapy can reduce pain and inflammation throughout the body, promote mental and physical relaxation, and general well-being.
HOT TOWEL MASSAGE
The use of hot, moist towels in massage therapy, also known as Hydro Thermal therapy, can help tight muscles to relax, soothes irritated nerve endings and increases circulation. Therapists can achieve more results during a limited treatment session period by applying hot, moist towels to one area of the client’s body while manually massaging other areas, then switching as needed. Hot towels can be used in areas that would be unable to tolerate the pressure and friction common to manual massage, and the use of moist heat is recommended by the Arthritis Foundation to help to relax muscles and increase circulation in areas made tender by that condition.
MEET THE TEAM
Practice Manager & Remedial Massage Therapist
Introduced to massage at the age of 19, I dedicated several months to reading massage books and talking to Massage Therapists. After hearing about the benefits of massage, and seeing the effects first-hand, I began using massage to assist friends manage their pain. After relocating from Victoria, I ceased practicing massage, and pursed other career interests in a number of different industries. A few years ago, I found myself once again assisting a friend by use of massage. It was this friend that suggested I return to massage, to become qualified and practice on a commercial level. I decided to go ahead with training, to obtain my Diploma of Remedial Massage. Gaining my diploma in 2015, I now own and operate Bodyworx Massage, here in Hervey Bay. I am very client orientated and dedicated to helping people achieve their health and wellness goals.

Relaxation Massage Therapist
Originally from the South of Wales in the UK, I emigrated to Australia in 2021, where I discovered the many benefits of Massage. After experiencing some long-term issues that I thought were untreatable, I tried Remedial Massage and Scenar Therapy, achieving a level of function and a reduction of pain that I had thought was not possible. I began to consider the possibility of leading a more active life and pursuing a career as a Massage Therapist. While I was settling into my new life in Hervey Bay, I met Anthony and mentioned that I was considering a career as a Massage Therapist. He offered me the opportunity to learn and eventually work with him, completing my certificate in August 2022. I look forward to working and pursuing further training with Bodyworx Massage for the foreseeable future.
